Bethanne Nemesh is a classically trained artist whose interest in quilting began when the subtle influences of her grandmothers intersected with Bethanne’s moving to eastern Pennsylvania, an area rich in Amish quilting designs. An accidental trip to a local quilt store caused her to discover batiks and Bethanne found herself drawn to the beautiful colors and patterns of quilting. Like many of us, Bethanne began quilting by following commercial patterns. Soon, however, her artistic bent and familiarization with art shows and competitions led her to design and enter her domestic machine quilted pieces in quilting competitions. When Bethanne purchased a longarm machine, she began a quilting business in her home with the added benefit that she could now marry her natural drawing abilities with quilting. Her pictographic quilts have won major awards across the country and her quilts bear the signature look that has become known as “Nemeshing.”

Excellent class! I’ve been quilting for many years, but learned a lot of new tips and tricks to help speed things up and also improve the aesthetics of my feathers and borders. Thanks, Bethanne!

Bethanne is a goddess of the Longarm, just look at her beautiful award winning quilts on the internet! She has come down to help we mere mortals with her simplified methods to help us create modified custom quilting designs that are easily reproducible…. with practice of course. I am looking forward to more classes from Bethanne, I actually came looking for a new class by her today…I really hope to see one soon!

  3. Beverly King (verified owner)

This class was informative and well presented. i was hoping for more than a very short demo on the home sewing machine. I understood from what was said at the beginning that she would go back and forth between machines but that didn’t happen. SO in the time it took to watch this whole class I feel that particular point was not covered enough for me.

  4. Avon Bingham (verified owner)

Not for me. I wouldn’t pay someone who Quilted my quilt like she Quilts. Also she spent several lessons on feathers, not freehand in other designs.

I chanced upon a video featuring an interview of Bethanne by Jodie Davies. I was curious to find out more about Bethanne’s method of mid custom quilting so I signed up for her class at iquilt when there was a sale last month. I learnt so much from this class! She teaches techniques that are practical and very useful especially to those who quilt for a living. I have watched her class at least 3 times and have since ordered her books. I really want to learn more of her techniques.

I actually didn’t think this class was going to be all that good. I got a 40%off so I decided to go ahead and try it. Well I was sure wrong. This was a class that I’m really going to be able to use. I’ve taken several quilting classes, that although they were informative and presented well, they just weren’t me. This class has techniques that are really practicable, and quite beautiful, and just my style of quilting. I also thought she did an excellent job of explaining how to quilt her gorgeous designs. I liked her style of teaching also, very poised and confident style. Thank you Bethanne for a great class. I personally loved it!

  7. Nancy Romanelli (verified owner)

I was a very disappointed with this class. I had hoped that Bethanne would explain more of her techniques that she is so well know for. Instead, it seemed that she showed basic doodling, nothing more.

  8. Phyllis Ditto (verified owner)

This just may be the best quilting class that I have ever taken. Wonderful on every level. Can’t wait for the next one. Thank you.

  9. Kathryn Broege (verified owner)

This is a wonderful class and I am so very happy I took it in addition to purchasing the book of the same title. The designs are lovely and Bethanne’s instruction is absolutely excellent. There’s plenty of design inspiration combined with good practical instruction! I hope Bethanne Nemesh does more online classes and I look forward to acquiring more of her books and exploring this lovely method of quilting even further!

  10. Robin Kinley (verified owner)

An excellent class to maximize your skills for professional and hobby longarm quilters, though theses techniques would also work well on a domestic machine. Time is of the essence for paid longarmers and she makes lots of good points along the way, showed efficient ways to complete customer quilts that still look special. Instructions are clear and her teaching style is low-key and pleasant. Well worth the price. She has several books at her website that further elaborate on some of these ideas which would be a good complement to this class.

  11. Laura Ferrer (verified owner)

Thank you so much for the terrific class! Bethanne explains every concept thoroughly. I use a domestic machine to free motion quilt and found that all of her ideas were easily adaptable to the domestic machine. Thank you, Bethanne and I hope you do another class!

  12. Karen Vanlieshout (verified owner)

Well organized and fantastic delivery! I look forward to taking another class from Bethanne.

  13. Cecilia Hosford (verified owner)

Excellent class !! Very well presented with each skill building on the last. I especially enjoyed the segment on sashings that showed how to use the elements to tie the quilt designs together. Often , what to put in the border, especially those small 2 inch ones, is a puzzle. The wide border treatment was a great idea and already has me thinking of more ways to add more design to his area.
As an experienced quilter, I really found this class helpful. Lots to think about and incorporate in my quilting. I think a new quilter would really benefit from this also. The step by step techniques are doable with practice. Give this a 5 star!

This is a great class for all skill levels. I’ve been quilting on a longarm for almost 12 years, but have always been too hung up on things being perfect – shapes, measuring distances, etc. Custom quilting took me too long and became an onerous task. This class has really helped set me free to accomplish a beautiful custom-look quilt in a fraction of the time. The concepts for placement of motifs are very helpful. Bethanne is a natural in front of the camera and shares her ideas in a manner that is as free-flowing as her quilting. I enjoyed this very much and would recommend it for all quilters.

  15. Donna James (verified owner)

If you ‘can’t draw’, or you’d like some help making design decisions, Bethanne shares a goldmine of tips, how to’s, and why’s for the domestic and longarm quilter. Get out your sketchbook, and follow along.
These classes are well-paced, and build from simple to more complex motifs, and combinations, with minimal marking. Stand alone elements? Blocks? Shapes? Sashing? Borders? Bethanne covers all of it.
Though I am a ruler and template girl, I am impressed with what I have learned to draw, freehand, in this series of classes. She has given me the confidence to move out of my comfort zone.
An excellent companion to Bethanne’s book.

  16. Michelle Banton (verified owner)

I generally use computerized designs in my quilting, but Bethanne has given me the confidence to use more freehand work. Her presentation makes it feel like she is right there with me – and not reading from a script. She seems very comfortable with what she is doing and reminds us that free hand doesn’t have to be perfect. She is very organized in moving from one technique or design element to another and lets each lesson build upon previous ones.

Having an online class makes it so nice to be able to pause to practice or replay to review. Bethanne has done a super job to encourage me. I highly recommend this class. Even if you aren’t already comfortable with feathers, there is enough of a feather review in the beginning, that with her samples and some practice, you could still keep up with this class.

This IQuilt class was done in a very cohesive manner
Each segment or lesson built very well upon the other. Not only did each section have multiple tips and detailed techniques but each one lead to a broader understanding of that point and also each one that followed.
There was variety presented in each technique and the importance of how to keep each design in the round of the shape it was intended to be.
Bethanne brought up switching from manual to other stitch modes to make the design easier to stitch, which was very helpful.
I highly recommend this class. It give wonderful information, Makes the learning presented easy to conquer, and lend a great deal to building confidence and a library of design possibilities!!

  18. Brenda Bartlett (verified owner)

I thoroughly enjoyed the whole class and found it very informative. Bethanne explains each step so clearly and there is a great emphasis on starting with easy shapes and adding to them to create a whole new pattern.
I recently purchased Bethanne’s books so it will be great to have both the video and the books to refer to, as they compliment each other.
I now have a whole new outlook on the way I will quilt in the future.
Thank you for a fabulous class.

Don’t “think” about it-buy this class! You will not be disappointed! Bethanne breaks down her technique, builds your confidence and sparks your imagination. Now off to read and practice with her book-cover to cover! I’m taking two classes with Bethanne at MQX East in the spring-I am so excited but you can watch this class over and over.

  20. Loris Mills (verified owner)

This whole course is a great confidence builder. The steps are broken down well so designs can be learned and incorporated into quilting. I appreciated her attention to avoiding a lot of thread build up and making her designs so they covered the quilt but not so dense that it could stand up by itself
