Description
Instead of searching high and low for perfect landscape fabrics, make them yourself! Landscape quilter Mickey Lawler has painted over 45 thousand yards of fabric and she shares her tips and tricks for success in this fun class.
Begin by learning to mix the paints and move right into painting beautiful skies and water. Make texture-rich sun and sand prints and manipulate fabric to create interesting one-of-a-kind backgrounds for your projects.
Mickey shows how to make bricks and then provides a bonus piece that combines many of the techniques presented in the class. You can begin with a minimal number of supplies and make your own landscape fabrics like a pro—even if you’ve never painted before!
For your convenience, this class can be purchased for online viewing or purchased on DVD.

Mickey has been involved in quiltmaking since 1968 and is the creator of SKYDYES, a business specializing in hand-painted fabrics primarily for quiltmakers. She has been in demand as an enthusiastic instructor of her serendipitous style of painting impressionistic skies, water, and other landscape elements on cotton fabric. In her work and in her classes, she emphasizes collaboration with, rather than mastery over, the medium. The difference, Mickey says, is that students learn to listen to the paints as they work and begin to welcome unexpected results. They create a personal fabric not seen in the commercial fabric industry.
