Cutting Instructions
From the dark purple, cut:
(4) 2” x 2” squares
From the purple fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
From the light purple fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
From the yellow fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles
From the light yellow fabric, cut:
(1) 2 ½” x 2 ½” square
From the background fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
(4) 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangles
(4) 2” x 2” squares
Assembly
Half Square Triangles
Mark the wrong side of the background 2” squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked background square over a dark purple 2” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.
Trim unit to 1 1/2” square. Make 8.

Square in a Square
Mark the wrong side of the light purple 1 1/2” squares diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a light yellow 2 1/2” square and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat on all four corners.
Trim unit to 2 1/2″ square.
Block Assembly
Use the block diagram above to layout the block into rows. Sew the units into rows.
Sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 6 ½” x 6 ½” unfinished.
