Create a quilt to commemorate your home state. Use your 12″ state block in this or any setting of your choosing to create a one-of-a-kind quilt to celebration your home, sweet home.

 

Home Sweet Home State Quilt

85”x 85”

Fabric requirements:

Navy—6 1/4 yards

White—3 yards

Binding—5/8 yard

 

Follow 50 States in Stitches directions to cut and assemble pieces for 20 Colorado state blocks.

 

Cutting directions for the quilt setting:

From the white fabric, cut:

(36) 3” x 3” squares

(80) 2 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ square

From the navy fabric, cut:

(64) 8 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangle

(16) 8 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle

(8) 9” x 9” square, cut once on the diagonal

 (1) 13 1/4″ x 13 1/4″ square, cut twice on the diagonal

 

Block Assembly

Setting Blocks

Sew two white 2 1/2″ squares to either end of a navy 8 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangle. Make two and sew to either side of a navy 8 1/2” x 12 1/2″ rectangle. Make 16 blocks.

Setting Triangles

Mark a white 3” square on the diagonal. Sew the white square to the end of a navy 8 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangle on the marked line, trim edges. Make 32.

Lining up the bottom edges, sew a navy 9” half square to a navy rectangle. Make 16.

Sew a white 2 1/2″ square to one end of the remaining navy rectangles. Sew to the previous triangle unit. Make 16.

 

Corner Triangles

Mark a white 3” square on the diagonal. Sew the white square to either corner of a navy 13 1/4″ quarter triangle on the marked line. Trim and press. Make 4.

 

Quilt Assembly:

Referring to diagram, assemble blocks into rows and sew the rows together. Trim the outside, being careful to leave a quarter inch seam allowance intact.

Quilt and bind as desired.
