Greens for heart background – 7/8 yd
Greens for arrows – 7/8 yds
Backing – 3 3/8 yds
Binding – 1/2 yd
Cutting Instructions:
For the Heart Blocks, cut:
10 – 5″ pink squares
5 – 9″ pink square
5 – 4 1/2″ x 16 1/2″ pink rectangles
10 – 5″ green squares
5 – 9″ green squares
For the Arrow Blocks, cut:
16 – 2 1/2″ pink squares
8 – 2″ x 11 1/2″ pink rectangles
64 – 3″ pink squares
8 – 2″ x 7 1/2″ pink rectangles
16 – 1 1/4″ x 6″ pink rectangles
16 – 1 3/4″ pink squares
8 – 2″ pink squares
16 – 2 1/2″ green squares
64 – 3″ green squares
4 – 1 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ green rectangles
4 – 1 1/2″ x 14 1/2″ green rectangles
16 – 1 3/4″ green squares
8 – 1″ x 7 1/2″ green rectangles
8 – 2″ green squares
Heart Block Assembly:
Mark a diagonal line on the backs of the green 5″ and 9″ squares.
Make a line a 1/4″ on each side of the central diagonal line.
Layering a marked 5″ green square on top of a 5″ pink square, right sides together, sew on the two outer diagonal lines.
Cut apart on the central diagonal line. Repeat this process for the remaining 5″ and 9″ squares.
This is what they look like cut in half.
Measure for sizing by resting the 45 degree angle ruler line on the seam.
Size the 5″ squares to 4 1/2″ square. Size the 9″ squares to 8 1/2″.
Gather the half square triangles and the 4 1/2″ x 16 1/2″.
Sew the top row together.
Sew the bottom row together
Sew the top two rows together.
Sew the bottom row to the top of the block. Repeat to make 5 heart blocks.
Arrow Block Assembly:
Using the 1 3/4″ squares, 2″ squares, 2 1/2″ squares, and the 3″ pink and green squares, make half square triangle units.
Follow the detailed steps for making half square triangles above in the heart instructions.
Don’t forget to size!
1 3/4″ squares to 1 1/4″ square
2″ squares to 1 1/2″ square
2 1/2″ squares to 2″ square
3″ squares to 2 1/2″ square
To make the arrows:
Each Big Arrow uses –Â
2 – 2 1/2″ sized half square triangles
4 – 2″ sized half square triangles
1 – 1 1/2″ x 14 1/2″ green rectangle
2 – 2″ x 11 1/2″ pink rectangles
Each Medium Arrow uses –
2 – 2 1/2″ sized half square triangles
4 – 2″ sized half square triangles
1 – 1 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ green rectangle
2 – 2″ x 7 1/2″ pink rectangles
Each Small Arrow uses –Â
4 – 1 1/4″ sized half square triangles
2 – 1 1/2″ sized half square triangles
1 – 1″ x 7 1/2″ green rectangle
2 – 1 1/4″ x 6″ pink rectangles
Sew the half square triangles together. Sew the long pink rectangles to the half square triangles top row and bottom row.
Sew the two bottom rows together.
Sew top to bottom.
Sew left side to right side completing arrow unit.
Sew the sized 2 1/2″ half square triangles together into rows.
Sew rows together.
Lay out all the arrow units.
Begin sewing together to form rows.
Sew the units together.
Continue joining the block units.
Complete the block. Make 4 Arrow Blocks.
