by Betsey Langford

Fabric Requirements:

Nine Patch (5 squares): Five 1/2 yards (or (5) 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ each)

Nine Patch (4 squares): Four 1/4 yards (or (4) 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ each)

Quarter Square Triangles: Four 3/4 yards (or 25 1/4″ x 25 1/4″ each)

Binding: 2/3 yard

Cutting Instructions:

For each Nine Patch, cut:

(5) 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ squares from main fabric

(4) 8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ squares from background fabric

For the Quarter Square Triangles, cut:

(4) 25 1/4″ x 25 1/4″ square from four fabrics.

Block Assembly:

For each Nine Patch, sew the 8 1/2″ squares into rows alternating the background and main fabrics. Use the quilt image above as a guide. Make three rows.

Sew the rows together into a block.

Make 5 Nine Patch blocks.

For the Quarter Square Triangle blocks, lay a 25 1/4″ square on top of another of a different color, right sides together.

Draw a line diagonally from one corner to the other.

Sew a 1/4″ from the line on each side.

Cut apart on the drawn line.

Press the Half Square Triangles

Repeat this process with the remaining two 25 1/4″ squares.

Lay the two Half Square Triangle blocks right sides together, matching the diagonal seams.

Draw a line diagonally from one corner to the other (not the same diagonal as the seam).

Sew a 1/4″ from the line on each side.

Cut apart on the drawn line.

This makes 4 Quarter Square Triangle blocks.

Quilt Assembly:

Using the diagram above, sew the blocks into rows and the rows into a quilt.

Quilt as desired.

Bind.
