Free Pattern: Grateful Pinwheel

Fabric Requirements:

Green – 2 yards

Blue – 1 1/2 yards

Black – 1 yard

White – 4 3/4 yards

Binding – 3/4 yard

 

Cutting Instructions:

From the green fabric, cut:

(2) 96½” x 3½” strips, made up of (5) 3½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(2) 90½” x 3½” strips, made up of (5) 3½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(24) 7″ x 7″ squares for half square triangles

 

From the blue fabric, cut:

(2) 84½” x 3½” strips, made up of (5) 3½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(2) 78½” x 3½” strips, made up of (4) 3½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(16) 7″ x 7″ squares for half square triangles

 

From the black fabric, cut:

(2) 78½” x 3½” strips, made up of (4) 3½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(2) 72½” x 3½” strips, made up of (4) 3½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(4) 7″ x 7″ squares for half square triangles

 

From the white fabric, cut:

(2) 90½” x 3½” strips, made up of (5) 3½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(2) 84½” x 3½” strips, made up of (5) 3½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(2) 60½” x 6½” strips, made up of (4) 6½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(2) 48½” x 6½” strips, made up of (3) 6½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(2) 36½” x 6½” strips, made up of (2) 6½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(2) 24½” x 6½” strips, made up of (2) 6½” strips cut from the width of the fabric

(44) 7″ x 7″ squares for half square triangles

 

Assembly:

Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the backside of each of the white half square triangle (HST) 7″ block squares.

For each set, lay the marked 7″ square on the unmarked 7″ square, right sides together. Assemble as follows:

  •  24 White and 24 Green 7″ squares yields 48 HSTs.
  •  16 White and 16 Blue 7″ squares yields 32 HSTs.
  •  4 White and 4 Black 7″ squares yields 8 HSTs.

Sew a 1/4″ seam on each side of the diagonal line.

Cut on the diagonal line.

Press the half square triangles and trim evenly to 6½”.

Following the diagram below, sew the sections together and the sections into a quilt!
