Fabric Requirements:

Tan — 1 1/8 yards
Assorted Reds — 1/4 yards
Assorted Blues —  1/2 yards
Assorted Browns — 1/2 yards
Gold — 1/4 yards
Border — 3/4 yards
Binding — 1/2 yards

Cutting Instructions:

From the tan fabric, cut:
(4) 13″ x 13″ squares
(4) 12 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ squares

From the assorted red fabrics, cut:
(4) 7″ x 7″ squares

From the assorted blue fabrics, cut:
(4) 7″ x 7″ squares
(2) 13″ x 13″ squares

From the assorted brown fabrics, cut:
(2) 7″ x 7″ squares
(2) 13″ x 13″ squares

From the gold fabric, cut:
(2) 7″ x 7″ squares
(4) 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ squares

From the border fabric, cut:
(6) 4″ x Width of Fabric (WOF) strips

From the binding fabric, cut:
(6) 2 1/2″ x WOF strips

Assembly:

Mark on the wrong side of a light square on the diagonal once. Layer right sides together with a dark square and sew a quarter inch from both sides of the marked line. Cut apart and press to the dark. To see the method in action, watch How to Make a Half Square Triangle Unit. 

Make:

  • (8) red/blue HSTs, trim to 6 1/2″
  • (4) gold/brown HSTs, trim to 6 1/2″
  • (4) tan/brown HSTs, trim to 12 1/2″
  • (4) tan/blue HSTs, trim to 12 1/2″

Using red/blue HSTs, gold/brown HSTs, and gold 6 1/2″ squares, assemble four blocks as shown.

Lay units and blocks out in rows and assemble rows as shown.

Add side borders and then top and bottom borders.

Quilt as desired and bind.
