Sew a black 1 1/2″ square to the side of a purple 1 1/2″ square. Sew another black 1 1/2″ square the the bottom of the same purple square.
  Â
Lay the unit in the corner of a dark purple 2 1/2″ square, right sides together. Sew from corner to corner, being careful to stay just outside the corner purple square.
Trim away the excess dark purple and black squares leaving a 1/4″ seam allowance. Press the dark purple square open to fill the other half of the square.
  Â
Center Assembly
Using the units constructed above and the remaining center pieces, lay out the block into sections as shown below. Sew the sections together. Sew the sections into a block center.
Center unit measures 7 1/2″ square. If the block center is smaller than 7 1/2″ square, see the note in the sizing frame instructions.
