Cutting Instructions
From the dark purple, cut:
(4) 1” x 2 ½” rectangles
From the purple fabric, cut:
(1) 2 ½” x 2 ½” square
(4) 2” x 2” squares
(2) 3″ x 3″ squares
From the dark yellow fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
From the yellow fabric, cut:
(4) 1” x 2 ½” rectangles
From the light yellow fabric, cut:
(4) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares
(1) 3 ½” x 3 ½” square
From the background fabric, cut:
(4) 1 ½” x 1 ½” squares
(2) 3″ x 3″ squares
Assembly
Square in a Square
Mark the wrong side of the dark yellow 1 1/2” squares diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a purple 2 1/2” square and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat on all four corners.
Trim unit to measure 2 1/2″ square.
Flying Geese
Mark four purple 2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay two purple marked squares over a light yellow 3 1/2″ square in diagonally opposite corners. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press.
Lay a purple square over the corner of the light yellow triangle. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press. Repeat with the other light yellow triangle.
Trim unit to measure 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangle. make 4.
Sew a dark purple 1″ x 2 1/2″ rectangle to a yellow 1″ x 2 1/2″ rectangle. Sew this unit to the bottom of the Flying Geese unit as shown below.
Unit measures 2 1/2″ square. Make 4.
Corner Units with Flip
Mark the wrong side of the background 3” squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked background square over a purple 3” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line.
Trim unit to 2 1/2” square. Make 4.
Mark the wrong side of the light yellow 1 1/2” squares diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of the purple portion of the Half Square Triangle; sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press.
Trim unit to measure 2 1/2″ square. Make 4.
Block Assembly
Use the block diagram above to layout the block into three rows. Sew the units into rows.
Sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 6 ½” x 6 ½” unfinished.
