Daybreak is such a fun quilt for showing off prints, playing with color, and experimenting with value. I’ll admit, spending so much time at home has turned my mind towards thinking of far away (or even just a little farther away) places. So I tried to tell color stories inspired by different places and loved the challenge!
Tula Pink says when she’s designing, greens are her neutrals, and I wanted to push that with this jungle-inspired color way! These greens go from hot to cool with more yellow or more blue. And they’re all fun.
Blueberry picking is my favorite summer harvest, but it’s already started up north! With this quilt, the design is done all in purples. The background is a light blue almost the same value as the light purple. By using a different but closely related color, a contrast is created through color rather than value.
Colorado is one of my absolute favorite places to go and curl up under a wool blanket, which inspired the colors of this quilt.
I’ve been rereading Austen and it made me think of the beautiful estate gardens, like these roses at Haddon Hall.
Using all blues and blue-greens, I set out to capture the layers of color in a glacier. Using a dark navy for the background makes the lighter blues and the design of the quilt stand out.
