Piecing Tip: Parchment Paper to the Rescue!

Are you tired of your sewing machine munching on the corners of your fabric pieces? Fear not, fellow quilter, for we have a clever piecing tip from AQS Member, Maggie Desmond, that will save the day!

Maggie understands the struggle of working with a machine that doesn’t allow her to change her throat plate. But she didn’t let that stop her from finding a solution. With her creative ingenuity, she stumbled upon a surprising hero in her kitchen – parchment paper!

Here’s how it works:

Cut or tear the parchment paper into small rectangles, and keep them handy at your sewing table. When you’re about to sew a piece with delicate points, simply slide a piece of parchment paper partially under the fabric, positioning it under the needle.

Now, sew as you normally would. The parchment paper acts as a protective shield, preventing the fabric corners from getting chewed up by the needle and swallowed into the throat plate. Voila! Your points come out flawless, and you can fall in love with your trusty machine all over again.

What’s fantastic about this piecing tip is that the parchment paper is easily removable. Since you’re using a small piece and it’s not positioned under the entire fabric, you can pull it out quickly without any fuss. It’s a game-changer, especially when you’re chain sewing and need to keep up the pace.
