Must-Try Trends of 2019

The end of the years brings out reflective moods and look backs, and it also reminds us that a season for making changes is just around the corner. One of our resolutions in 2019 was to try quilting trends past and present. Now we’re looking back at the Must-Try Trends of 2019.

Trend: Pictorial Blocks – Simple Piecing
What to expect: Learn to design blocks depicting objects using easy to piece 90-degree and 45-degree angles. No fancy tools needed!

 

Must-Try Trends 2019

Trend: Low Volume Quilts
What to expect: Select fabrics with little contrast to create dreamy quilts that bust your stash while creating a scrappy quilt with the “volume” turned down.

 

Trend: English Paper Piecing
What to expect: Hand-piecing lovers will find all sorts of tutorials and patterns from basic hexies to curved piecing. This is a great trend for on-the-go projects!

 

Trend: Lettering
What to expect: Let your quilt do the talking with lettering. From piecing to applique, there are so many ways to use your voice in quilting.

What to expect: Get inspired by mosaic quilts from the QuiltWeek contest and try the trend with an easy fuse-applique tutorial.

What to expect: There are some basic units all quilters have in their repertoire—Flying Geese, quarter square triangles, half square triangles—and now you can add one more: Half Rectangle Triangles.
