Who knew a moose could be so sassy – and so cute? You don’t have to live in the Northwest to love this addition to your appliqué or embroidery project.
Sassy Moose is #4 in the AQS series of Forest Friends! There will be six designs, all measuring within a 4½” x 4½” perimeter. Watch for Forest Friends Week #7 when you’ll get a scene to place them in!

Appliqué
Each of the Forest Friends can be created with a raw edge appliqué technique.
Here are some basic steps to try:
Using your favorite fusible interfacing, trace the Forest Friend’s parts individually onto the paper side. Tracing creates a reverse image so flip if desired.
Cut out the pieces of the Forest Friend, leaving a generous allowance around each piece.
Iron the fusible interfacing to the WRONG side of the desired fabric.
Cut out along the line on the fusible interfacing.
Peel the paper backing from the fusible interfacing.
Iron the Forest Friend pieces in place on the background fabric.
Stitch along the edges of the owl using a straight stitch, zig zag or satin stitch.
Embroidery
Not only are the Forest Friends great for appliqué, you might choose to grab some embroidery floss and stitch him up!
Here are some basic steps to try:
Using a light box, trace the outline of the owl lightly on the front side of the fabric to be embroidered.
Select fun colors for stitching. Use an outline stitch and stitch over the marked lines.
Embellish with buttons, bows, yarn or beads as desired.
