Cutting Instructions
From the cream fabric, cut:
(4) 3” x 3”
(1) 2 ½” x 4”
(2) 1 ½” x 2 ½”
From the tan fabric, cut:
(1) 5 ½” x 5 ½”
From the orange fabric, cut:
(2) 2 ½” x 2 ½”
(2) 1 ½” x 4”
From the teal fabric, cut:
(2) 2 ½” x 2 ½”
(2) 1 ½” x 4”
Unit Assembly
No-Waste Flying Geese
Using the No-Waste Flying Geese method mark four cream 3” squares in half diagonally once. Lay two cream marked squares over a tan 5 1/2″ square in diagonally opposite corners. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press.
Lay a marked cream square over the corner of the tan triangle. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart and press. Repeat with the other tan triangle.
Trim Flying Geese to 2 ½” x 4 ½” rectangle. Make 4 tan/cream Flying Geese.
Strip Piecing Four Patches
Sew together the teal 1 ½” x 4” rectangle and orange 1 ½” x 4” rectangle along the long side. Press towards the teal.
Cut (2) 1 ½” sections from the strip set. Sew together to make a Four Patch unit.
Nine Patch Unit
Sew together an orange 1 ½” x 4” rectangle and cream 2 ½” x 4” rectangle along the long side. Press towards the cream. Repeat with the teal rectangle on the other side of the cream rectangle
Cut (2) 1 ½” sections from the strip set to make the top and bottom rows.
Sew a cream 1 ½” x 2 ½” rectangle to the sides of Four Patch unit to make the center row. Press towards the cream.
Lay the rows out and assemble into a Nine Patch. Unit measures 4 ½” square.
Block Assembly
Use the block diagram below to layout the block into rows.
Sew the units into rows.
Sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 8 ½” x 8 ½” unfinished.
