Silent Night Tablerunner
13″ x 24″
Fabric Requirements
Red (includes binding) – 1/2 yard
Green – 1/8 yard
Black – 1/2 yard
Backing – 1/2 yard
Additional fabric is required to increase the size of the runner. Add additional blocks to reach desired length.
Cutting Instructions
From the red fabric, cut:
(16) 3″ x 3″ squares
(12) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares
From the green fabric, cut:
(8) 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ squares
(3) 1″ x 1″ squares
From the black fabric, cut:
(16) 3″ x 3″ squares
(32) 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles
(10) 1″ x 5 1/2″ rectangles
(2) 1 1/2″ x 11″ borders
(2) 1 1/2″ x 24″ borders
Block Assembly
Half Square Triangles
Mark the wrong side of the red 3” squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked red square over a black 3” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart on the marked line.
Trim unit to 2 1/2” square. Make 8.
Corner Flips
Mark the wrong side of the red 1 1/2” squares diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of the Half Square Triangle and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press.
Unit measures 2 1/2” square. Make 12.
Block A
Layout block A in rows using three Half Square Triangles, a Half Square Triangle with a corner flip, four black 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles, and a green 1 1/2″ square. Sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 5 1/2″ square. Make 4.
Block B
Layout Block B into rows using two Half Square Triangles, two Half Square Triangles with a corner flip, four black 1 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ rectangles, and a green 1 1/2″ square. Sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 5 1/2″ square. Make 4.
Tablerunner Assembly
Layout the blocks into rows with the black 1″ x 5 1/2″ sashing and green 1″ squares. Sew into rows.
Sew the rows together to complete the runner center.
Then sew the black 1 1/2″ x 11″ borders to each side of the runner center.
Sew the black 1 1/2″ x 24″ borders to the top and bottom of the runner center.
Layer the runner top with batting and backing. Quilt the Silent Night table topper as desired and bind.
