Cutting Instructions:
From the white fabric, cut:
(1) 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” square
(2) 1 7/8” x 1 7/8” squares, cut in half diagonally once
(4) 1” x 1 5/8” rectangle
(8) 1” x 1” squares
From the red fabric, cut:
(2) 2 3/8” x 2 3/8” squares, cut in half diagonally once
(4) 1 5/8” x 1 5/8” squares
(5) 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” squares
(4) 1” x 1” squares
Assembly:
Corner Units
Sew a red 1” square to the right side of a white 1” x 1 5/8” rectangle, press to the red. Sew a white triangle from the 1 7/8” square cut in half to the top of the previous unit, press towards the triangle. Trim the white rectangle at a 45-degree angle even with the white triangle.
Sew a red triangle from the 2 3/8” square cut in half to the previous unit, press towards the red triangle.
Unit measures 2” square. Make 4.
Flying Geese
Mark four red 1 5/8″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay two red marked squares over a white 2 1/2″ square in diagonally opposite corners. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press.
Lay a red square over the corner of the white triangle. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press. Repeat with the other white triangle.
Trim Flying Geese to 1″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle. Make 4 Flying Geese.
House Unit
Mark the wrong side of the white 1″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked white square, right sides together, in the corner of the red 1 1/2″ square. Sew on the marked line. Trim a 1/4″ and press.
Repeat on the opposite corner.
Unit measures 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ square.
Block Assembly
Sew a Flying Geese Unit to a House Unit as shown. Unit measures 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangle.
Sew a Corner unit to each side of the Flying Geese/House unit. Measures 2″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle. Make 2.
Sew a Flying Geese/House unit to each side of the red 1 1/2″ square.
Sew the rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 4 1/2″ square unfinished.
