The AQS Quilt 2018 project for July is Single Design!
At the beginning of the year, you made a list of all the quilt making techniques you’d like to try in 2018 and put them in a jar. Then, you chose your own personal color of the year. You are ready!

Our style for this month is Single Design Quilts.
Single Design quilts feature one design that makes up the entire quilt. A great traditional example is a Lone Star quilt.
Below are examples of Single Design quilts from finalists in Spring Paducah Quilt Contest to inspire you:
Let’s start with the popular classic, a Lone Star. The Lone Star embodies the idea of a single design quilt and spawned a multitude of star quilts.
Oftentimes the central star will appear to bloom, but the added elements remain part the center design rather than bordering it like a medallion quilt. It can be tricky to tell a single design quilt apart from a medallion quilt when the borders of the medallion strongly echo the theme of the central motif.
Give Me Liberty by Pati Fried is an applique version of this idea with one large motif.
This quilt combines piecing and applique techniques while still creating a single design.
When creating your single design quilt, think one main design, real big with no or minimal borders. This quilt style begs to be played with and invites big creativity! Go wild!
Draw your technique from your jar, think about clever ways to play with your color of the year, and start creating.
