Description
Many of us complete the quilt top but hesitate when it comes to quilting on our home machines. Cindy’s easy manner takes you from marking and basting to straight-line stitching and then on to continuous free-motion quilting. Feathers are included as well as turning, placement, and stitching techniques.
Learn to anchor your piece and determine the order in which things get quilted. Know which foot to use and what to do with feed dogs. Cindy Seitz-Krug also demonstrates how a large quilt can be successfully quilted on a domestic home machine.
This beginner’s class takes the mystique out of quilting on your very own sewing machine and gives you the skills you need to sew your projects from start to finish.
For your convenience, this class can be purchased for online viewing or purchased on DVD.

It turns out that mother really did know best when Cindy’s mom signed her up for a quilting class at the local community college in 1992. Known best for her machine quilting, Cindy likes to take traditional patterns and enhance them, creating a style all her own. Cindy has an impressive list of awards to her credit, including winning Best of Show with her quilt, SIMPLY SANTA FE, at the 2011 AQS QuiltWeek in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Cindy is an instructor with the AQS School of Quiltmaking. A fun fact is that Cindy has a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental and Systematic Biology with a concentration in Fisheries Biology. For over 20 years, she and her husband owned their own aquaculture facility, raising catfish for sale to grocers and restaurants. When they can get away, Cindy and her husband, Rich, along with daughter Caitlyn and son Cameron, like to spend time in the mountains and deserts of the western United States.

I learned a number of basic things in this course that will improve my machine quilting. This is an excellent introduction to machine quilting for those who have never done it before. But that is not all this course can do. I have been quilting for a number of years, though, and still I learned a few tips about things that always bothered me about my results.

This is the first class that I have taken with iquilt. I thought it was excellent. It met me just where I should be in the free motion process. I have been quilting for years and have done all sorts of fancy pieced tops, but my “quilting” skills were limited to large all over meanders using a sort of track affair for my machine. This class took me back to the fundamentals of stationary machine quilting and has headed me in the direction of the type of the more intricate quilting that I want to do on my machine. Thank you!

This is the first class where I actually feel motivated to try. Cindy makes a point to explain things and does not assume we already know what she’s talking about or reason for doing it. Makes a huge difference. Another thing, I love that she shows us how to actually tackle a very large quilt and not a small make believe quilt. Her tips are equally informative and practical. Just loved this class!

I noticed there were no student images. I want to amend my review to 5 stars, after completing all the exercises. I’m far from perfect, but can see the changes already. I, now, believe I can do this. Thank you, Cindy.

This was a great introduction I wish I had had years ago. Cindy is very clear and kind. I agree that this is the best demonstration and description of stippling ever.

Cindy, Thank you! I learned a lot from all of your course, but I had been trying to learn stippling, and had looked at it like trying to draw jigsaw pieces without anything touching, but now I’m really ready to practice your instructions – what a Great way to envision completing stippling. I had not even thought about having enough nerve to try feathers, but I’m going to after your lessons, and when I left my feed dogs up, I thought, why bother with a walking foot? Now I know why.

Cindy clearly defines all the terms she uses for better understanding. She carefully explains each technique and how alternatives can be used also. I really like the way she shows how to be in control of your stitching by using slow, careful motions. From beginning to end she encourages active participation and lets you know how you can check for accuracy. She is precise and easy to follow. I will be recommending this class to all my guild members and beginning students.

Cindy gives clear and concise instruction on learning to successfully machine quilt. Every aspect of the process is completely covered and clearly explained to give a beginner confidence to do all the different processes that make a quilt successfully quilted. The photography makes this a very instructive process. You can see every stitch and every manipulation of thread and fabric. I have been machine quilting for years and picked up many tips to improve. The stippling has been a challenge for me, but now I feel confident that I can do it successfully. I will come back to this again and again to refresh my skills.

I am a beginning quilter and I highly recommend this class for the ease of learning. Cindy demonstrates so many valuable techniques, equipment and quilting vocabulary. She an amazing instructor who explains in very understandable language throughout her demonstrations. For me, being able to start and stop a lesson is invaluable. As well, the ability to take notes and ask questions is very important. I would sign up for any quilting lesson that Cindy teaches. I have really benefitted from the course. Thank you for offering it.

Excellent class! I’ve watched the whole course. It is geared to the beginning machine quilter but even those who have had a previous class or two will find it a good review. Cindy takes you step by step to successfully mastering quilting on a home machine. It’s like having a private lesson – lots of tips and tricks along the way – all in a friendly and fun atmosphere. I love the fact that I can go back and look at the lessons over again. I hope she’ll do another course in the future as I’d like to learn more background stitches.
