Successful Machine Quilting: Basic & Beyond Course

Many of us complete the quilt top but hesitate when it comes to quilting on our home machines. Cindy’s easy manner takes you from marking and basting to straight-line stitching and then on to continuous free-motion quilting. Feathers are included as well as turning, placement, and stitching techniques.

Learn to anchor your piece and determine the order in which things get quilted. Know which foot to use and what to do with feed dogs. Cindy Seitz-Krug also demonstrates how a large quilt can be successfully quilted on a domestic home machine.

This beginner’s class takes the mystique out of quilting on your very own sewing machine and gives you the skills you need to sew your projects from start to finish.

For your convenience, this class can be purchased for online viewing or purchased on DVD.

FAQ

When stitching in the ditch, what do you do if your ditch (or low side of seam) switches at an intersection?

When stitching in the ditch and you cross an intersection in which the “ditch” or low side of seam changes (due to pressing and nestling seams), your ditch quilting must also switch sides in order to stay in the ditch. If your intersection isn’t quite as precise as it should be, you may have a slightly jagged stitch at the intersection because you had to cross that point at an angle to get to the ditch. Therefore, this will be a good lesson to you (and all of us) to be as precise as possible with our piecing! Also, using invisible thread for stitching in the ditch is always a good idea because even if you slip out of the ditch every once in a while, it doesn’t show as badly as if you were using cotton thread.

What kind of stitches will I learn?

Cindy begins with straight-line quilting. She then she explains how to free-motion quilt. Finally, Cindy teaches how to make beautiful feathers. These three options will give you so many wonderful ways to complete your own quilt tops. And when you do, please post them so we can enjoy your good work!

If I have never machine quilted before, will this class teach me how to finish quilting an entire quilt top?

If you have a quilt top that needs to be quilted, this is the class for you! Cindy will show you how to move from marking your quilt to putting the finishing touches on every last quilting stitch.
