Slow the hectic pace and learn sashiko, an ancient Japanese hand stitching technique. Carol R. Ziogas expertly explains how to choose fabrics, transfer designs, and use traditional tools and threads to apply beautiful accents to quilts, home décor, and fiber art pieces.

Use the designs provided to make a wallhanging and learn straight, persimmon blossom, and hemp leaf stitches. An adorable bunny makes its appearance as a family crest and you’ll also learn how to do freehand sashiko and variations.

Carol shows how to use sashiko to mend and embellish clothing, much like the ancient Japanese farmers who developed this method to patch their own clothes in order to keep warm. Merge tranquility and beauty as you learn this time-honored technique.
