Cutting Instructions
From the white fabric, cut:
(4) 1 5/8” x 1 5/8” squares
(4) 1 1/2” x 2” rectangles
(1) 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” square
(4) 1” x 1 1/2” rectangles
(16) 1” x 1” squares
From the red fabric, cut:
(1) 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” square
(4) 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” squares
From the black fabric, cut:
(4) 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” squares
(4) 1” x 1” squares
Assembly
Flip Units
Mark four black 1 1/2″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay the marked black square, right sides together, in the left upper corner of a white 1 1/2″ x 2″ rectangle.
Sew on the marked line. Trim 1/4” seam allowance and press towards the white. Make 4.
Sew a black 1″ square to the end of a white 1″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle. Sew to the bottom of the previous unit as shown below to complete the corner unit.
Make 4.
Flying Geese
Mark the white 1 5/8″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay two white marked squares over a red 2 1/2″ square in diagonally opposite corners. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press.
Lay a marked white square over the corner of the red triangle. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press. Repeat with the other red triangle. Trim Flying Geese to 1″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle. Make 4.
Square in a Square
Mark the wrong side of the white 1” squares diagonally once. Lay a marked square on the corner of a red 1 1/2” square and sew on the marked line. Trim a quarter inch from the marked line and press. Repeat on all four corners. Unit measures 1 1/2” unfinished. Make 4.
Sew a Square in a Square unit to the top of a Flying Geese unit as shown below. Make 4.
Block Assembly
Layout the units along with the remaining white 1 1/2″ square into rows using the block diagram below as a guide.
Sew each row together, then sew the rows together to complete the block.
