Cutting Instructions
From the white fabric, cut:
(4) 1 5/8” x 1 5/8” squares
(1) 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” square
(4) 1” x 2” rectangles
(12) 1” x 1” squares
(4) 1” x 1 1/2” rectangles
From the red fabric, cut:
(1) 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” square
(4) 1” x 2” rectangles
(12) 1” x 1” squares
From the black fabric, cut:
(4) 1” x 2” rectangles
Assembly
Flying Geese
Mark the white 1 5/8″ squares in half diagonally once. Lay two white marked squares over a red 2 1/2″ square in diagonally opposite corners. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press.
Lay a marked white square over the corner of the red triangle. Sew a quarter inch from the marked line on both sides. Cut apart and press. Repeat with the other red triangle. Trim Flying Geese to 1″ x 1 1/2″ rectangle. Make 4 Flying Geese.
Center Star
Sew a Flying Geese unit to both sides of the white 1 1/2″ center square. Sew a 1″ to both sides of each of the remaining Flying Geese units. Sew these to the top and bottom of the center square unit.
Flip Units
Mark the wrong side of a white 1” square in half diagonally once. Lay the marked white square, right sides together, on the left corner of a white 1” x 2” rectangle with the marked line beginning in the top left corner. Sew on the marked line. Trim 1/4” seam allowance and press towards the white. Make 2.
Repeat to make an identical flip unit with the square on the right end. Make 2.
Repeat using the white 1″ squares and the black 1″ x 2″ rectangles. Make 2 each direction for 4 total.
Match the ends of a black Flip Unit and a red Flip Unit together and sew to join.
Sew a set of the red Flip units to the top of a set of the white Flip units. Make 2.
Repeat the Flip unit process using a red 1″ square and a 1 1/2″ white rectangle. Make 2 sets.
Sew a small flip set on each side of the center star as shown below.
Sew the two flip sets to the top and bottom of the block center. Sew white 1″ squares to the ends of the two remaining flip units and sew to the sides to complete the block.
