Cutting Instructions:
From the white fabric, cut:
(2) 2” x 2” squares
(12) 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” squares
(2) 1” x 1” squares
From the red fabric, cut:
(2) 2” x 2” squares
(6) 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” squares
(2) 1” x 1” squares
From the black fabric, cut:
(6) 1 1/2” x 1 1/2” squares
Assembly:
Half Square Triangles
Mark the wrong side of the white 1 1/2” squares in half diagonally once. Lay a marked white square over a red 1 1/2” square, right sides together. Sew a quarter inch from each side of the marked line. Cut apart on the marked line and press towards the red.
Trim each Half Square Triangle to 1″ square. Make 12.
Repeat with the remaining marked white 1 1/2” squares and black 1 1/2” squares. Make 12.
Quarter Unit
Sew three white/red Half Square Triangles together as shown below. Make 2.
Sew three white/red Half Square Triangles together as shown below. Make 2.
Sew three white/black Half Square Triangles together as shown below. Make 2.
Sew three white/black Half Square Triangles together as shown below. Make 2.
Using the red 2” square, 1” square, and one of each white/red Half Square Triangle unit, layout the red quarter unit as shown below.
Sew the Half Square Triangle unit to the side of the red 2” square.
Sew the 1” square to the end of the remaining Half Square Triangle unit.
Sew these units together to make a white/red Quarter unit. Make 2.
Repeat using the image below to make two white/black Quarter units.
Block Assembly
Lay out the Quarter units using the block image as guide and sew the Quarter units into rows.
Sew to rows together to complete the block.
Block measures 4 1/2″ square unfinished.
